Squeeze, release…squeeze, release. The belly dancer’s Pelvic Tip is not the same as the Rumpshaker: It’s small, subtle, and graceful; it’s a slow shimmy, a dance of the spirit. Malika, belly dancer and teacher extraordinaire, and two members of her company, the Harem of the Queen, have created The Spring Dance, a hourlong video that helps the student find, feed, and express her own spirituality, as well as exercise her legs, buttocks, and stomach. Malika, who also conducts weekly classes throughout the D.C. area, performs nightly at a local restaurant, and leads seminars demonstrating how to design intricately sequined and beaded costumes, views the video as the culmination of her career so far. Hear the chime of the zill, do a head circle, and dance the dance of enchantment at a video signing and belly-dancing demonstration at 4 p.m. at Toast and Strawberries, 1608 Connecticut Ave. NW. Free. (202) 234-2424. (Ayesha Morris)
