As a way to keep in touch with his constituents across the city, At-Large Councilmember Harold Brazil has started a weekly e-mail listserv featuring legislative news as well as a weekly poll. Two weeks ago, Brazil offered a special incentive to some of his electronic pen pals: “I am asking anyone who has e-mail addresses of friends or relatives that might be interested in my weekly newsletter to give me their e-mail addresses,” Brazil wrote. “If you send me 3 or more, I will mail you a FREE MOVIE PASS…” The reward for helping spread online local democracy? Tea With Mussolini, a film about a group of expatriates in fascist Italy. Brazil spokesperson Jason Haber says the freebie didn’t go out to all constituents, though. He says only a “selected group of supporters” on the listserv received the special offer.
