Punk rock has a funny way of thriving in even the most unlikely environments. Take Bloomington, a fertile indie community nestled in the Indiana cornfields. John Mellencamp’s “Small Town” boasts plenty of garages for rockin’ and an endless array of bands, including the Panoply Academy Corps of Engineers, formerly the Panoply Academy Glee Club. The band’s music is filled with strangely harmonizing guitars, textured by a sampler, and driven by a pogo-worthy rhythm section. And it’s all played behind the eerily beautiful vocals of Darrin Glen, who must have taken voice lessons in the Alps. The Panoply Academy performs with El Guapo and Bald Rapunzel at 7:30 p.m. at the University of Maryland’s South Campus Dining Hall, on the second floor, University Boulevard & Adelphi Road, College Park. $3.
