After Ireland’s legendary folk supergroup the Bothy Band broke up, vocalist-keyboardist Triona Ni Dhomhnaill relocated to Chapel Hill, N.C., where she met multi-instrumentalists Zan McLeod, Claudine Langill, and Mark Roberts. The four musicians became Touchstone in 1979 and created a unique Irish-Appalachian fusion. The combination of Ni Dhomhnaill’s graceful vocal and keyboard work and the rougher bluegrass-inspired styles favored by her bandmates resulted in a special sound that hasn’t been heard since Touchstone’s 1985 breakup. Tonight’s show is a brief stop on the band’s reunion tour, so be sure to catch it this time around—there’s no telling when it will be back. At 7:30 p.m. at the Birchmere, 3701 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria. $15. (703) 549-7500. (Ken Roseman)
