MONDAY

MacKeel is the perfect antidote for all that Celtic Muzak currently polluting our aural environment. On its debut CD, Plaid, the Nova Scotia-based sextet cranks it up loud with a collection of heavy-metal sea chanties and rockin’ and reelin’ dance tunes. A fully electric band that uses fiddle, guitar, bagpipes, keyboards, bass, and drums, MacKeel is not for the musically timid. Its live set promises ear-splitting guitar solos as well as wailing bagpipe riffs. For those who need some raw meat in their folk-music diet, MacKeel should prove to be very nourishing. The Anglo-Celtic heavy-metal-power-folk chow-down begins at 9 p.m. at Iota, 2832 Wilson Blvd., Arlington. $8. (703) 522-8340. (Ken Roseman)
