Bless D.C. for its “presumption of joint custody” law (“Summer on the Run,” 8/13). The mother’s attorney says that “women don’t [kidnap their own children] unless they perceive a legitimate threat.” That’s baloney; the fact is, 24 out of 25 allegations of abuse in custody cases are baseless. Mothers trump up these charges because it gets them sympathy from police, social workers, and judges—and because their attorneys tell them to do so.
