Tenacious D reigns, dude! In their HBO-aired shorts, Kyle Gass and Jack Black rule open-mike night at a small club in Austin, Texas. In between the Wednesday night shows, the “heavy acoustic” duo has turned the tables on its “No. 1 fan,” jammed with Sasquatch on drums, and fought against a demon from hell by playing “The Greatest Song in the World.” Once, the band almost split up over a woman, a Satan-worshipping clog dancer with a spinal piercing, but KG and JB refused to let the dream die, continuing their search for Inspirado. Some say the D would make an ideal warm-up band for Spinal Tap. Fuck that: The Tap should open for Tenacious D. Catch the mighty duo on one of its rare road gigs, brought to you by Explosivo, the once-a-month detergent, at 9 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $12.50. (202) 393-0930. (Mark W. Sullivan)
