Let’s have more articles about prisoners and unimaginative local, state, and federal prison systems.
The misery of individuals washes back on society. The majority of prisoners are not threats to society. Some have had problems with alcohol and drugs.
Some sentences have been ridiculously long (e.g., that of Lynette Fromme, still in federal custody in Texas). For some petty offenders, a month in prison would be as useful as a year.
We need more scrutiny of prisons by journalists and responsible legislators.
