To many, watching new Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder wreak havoc on the burgundy and gold brings to mind Robert Duvall’s inspired turn as a crazed officer in Apocalypse Now. But I’m reminded instead of the charming film Local Hero, in which an eager young oil executive is sent to Scotland to acquire a quaint fishing village for the profit of his ruthless company. As you may recall, things don’t go quite according to plan: The hapless but endearing locals cast a spell over our hero, and his contempt gives way to a lasting affection. Pretty soon our Daniel is shouting pints at the Prancing Shar and discussing matters of the heart with Mr. Jurgensen, the cheerful philosopher who lives in a shack on the beach. As autumn begins to settle in, all is well again in the humble hamlet of Landover, and we have discovered that 6-10 can be a winning season after all. Snyder’s Skins meet the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 8 p.m. at Redskins Stadium, 1600 Raljon Road, Landover. $40-$100. (301) 276-6000. (James Morris)
