It sure was a letdown to find such a slanted and inaccurate piece about Columbia Heights in Loose Lips’ (9/24) column. If LL had done his homework, he would know that the “process of community input” referred to was a series of planning workshops that were attended by large groups of eager, hopeful, and diverse volunteers. It is these people who stepped forward to share their vision of what new development should look like, and it is these people whose plans are being discarded for yet another dirty deal. That is the story here that needs to be reported.
The entire Columbia Heights community is getting ripped off, and it’s just not helpful to have this issue misrepresented with shallow sensationalism. The Washington City Paper routinely offers comprehensive and honest reporting that just can’t be found elsewhere. Please keep your standards high and leave the fiction to the Washington Post.
