Clause for Concern Ranking officials at the D.C. Public Schools bureaucracy these days lecture students and parents on the importance of fundamentals—reading, writing, and grammar, for instance. Then they head back to their offices and crank out prose like the following, which comes from an article titled “DCPS Students Raise Funds and Present to Hurricane Mitch Victims” in the September issue of the school system’s newsletter, Stars: “Among those who died, 5,600 of whom were Hondurans, many were parents, whose lives were taken at the expense of the children they left behind.”
