Thank you for your story “The Long Shot” (10/15). In representing the American Association for the Improvement of Boxing and the Jerry Quarry Foundation for Pugilistica Dementia, I have learned that there is insufficient interest in casting a positive light on professional boxers and improving their plight. However, strong media support for the passage of the currently pending Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act by Congress would be a step in the right direction and prevent tragedies such as the recent deaths of champions Randy Carver and Carlos Barreto. The passage and implementation of this legislation would make professional boxing a safer and fairer undertaking for both the fighters and the fans.
