Trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, who releases more recordings in a year than many artists make in their entire careers, gives a free performance tonight to promote his latest effort, Mr. Jelly Lord—Standard Time Vol. 6. Part of his eight-CD Swinging Into the 21st series, the album celebrates the compositions of New Orleans jazz pioneer Jelly Roll Morton. The collection of 15 Morton blues and stomps features guest appearances by pianists Danilo Perez, Eric Reed, and Harry Connick Jr. The final track, a Marsalis-Reed duet performance of “Tom Cat Blues,” was recorded on a wax cylinder in Thomas Edison’s West Orange, N.J. laboratory, resurrecting the same process that Morton used. At 7 p.m. at Borders, 18th and L Streets NW. Free. (202) 466-6999. (Joel E. Siegel)
