In his article on the renaming of Metro stations (“Metro Conquers the World!” 10/22), Michael Schaffer writes that the Columbia Heights station is “quite a hike from many parts of Mount Pleasant.” One could easily say that it’s quite a hike from many parts of Columbia Heights as well. The distance between the station at 14th and Irving and the corner of Sherman and Florida, toward the far end of Columbia Heights, is an aerobic 10 blocks. On the other hand, the station is only one block from 16th Street, generally considered the beginning of Mount Pleasant—virtually on the boundary between the two neighborhoods.
