Your item on Charlene Drew Jarvis in Loose Lips (10/22) was very informative. It shows how corrupt our system of government is. How can a member of the D.C. Council be allowed to use her $80,000 government position to bring money to a private university that she is the president of—and earning over $130,000 from? She is a clear example of how politicians use their government positions for personal gain. If Jarvis’ primary concern is to bring money from contractors who do business with D.C. government and can benefit from her substantial influence as a councilmember and committee chair to benefit a private institution and solidify her position as its president, she is no longer serving the interest of those who elected her. No wonder people do not trust their elected officials anymore!
