I recently moved here, and upon opening the Washington City Paper I couldn’t believe that a major alternative weekly was wasting everyone’s time by reviewing records by the likes of Alanis Morissette and Counting Crows, and other meaningless prepackaged drivel. There is relevant and moving rock and pop music being recorded and played in this country and in this city, and one core responsibility of an alternative weekly is to find it and write about it. I suggest that you refer to the music sections of papers like the Stranger, the Village Voice, or the San Francisco Bay Guardian for inspiration. Or go find Puncture at a newsstand. Hell, I’ll write for you if that’s what it would take.

Thanks for listening.
