Stuck for a last-minute Christmas gift? As Marilyn Monroe (pictured, in Some Like It Hot) famously sang, “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” And boys, too, can enjoy sparkly gemstones. How timely then that the International Gem & Jewelry Show Inc. arrives in our fair town this weekend just packed to the brim with goo-gaws and doo-dads? And not just any shiny goo-gaws—Marilyn’s own priceless heirlooms are up for sale. The Gem & Jewelry people have somehow acquired a cache of Marilyn’s bangles, baubles, and beads from John Barrymore’s widow. Exactly how the deceased diva’s bracelets and brooches found their way into Mrs. B’s possession was not discussed on A&E’s Biography. No matter, to complete the show’s wintry celebrity-wonderland aura, one “Marilyn B. Monroe,” direct from Las Vegas, will appear to sign “official” photos—one presumes of MBM and not of MM. And as if this weren’t enough glittery glitz (and just maybe it isn’t), Loretta Swit will be on hand to hawk her “personally designed and made-by-hand” line of jewelry. But that’s not all! Other “NEW Fabulous Jewelry of the Stars” items include “curious things” from, among many others, Joan Rivers, Linda Blair, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and a thoughtful gift Sylvester Stallone gave to former wife Brigitte Nielsen that she no longer feels compelled to wear. And if you haven’t already gotten my gift, I’ll take the “Gold-Capped Tooth” keychain, given to Marilyn by Humphrey Bogart. From noon to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, at the Capital Expo Center, 4320 Chantilly Place, Chantilly. $6. (301) 294-1640.
