An interesting article (“Home Free,” 12/17/99)…I’ve lived that life, although for weeks, not days. It was executed well, both as a story and as reporting, but it made me a little sick inside. When I was in high school, I spent a couple of months being homeless, and ever since then, I’ve told people I think everyone should be homeless for at least a week to get a diploma. Being homeless on the streets is important when it comes time to resume daily functions: getting clean, going to school or work, greeting friends…whatever. Until one can do those things with dignity and full utility, one doesn’t really know dog food about being homeless, in my limited experience.
