I loved the article “You Aren’t What You Eat” (1/21) by Stephanie Mencimer. I go into Fresh Fields whenever I am near one, but always to have the free samples. (The Tenleytown store seems to have the most.) Even a cookie made with organic whole wheat flour and honey is edible if it’s free. When I want a good cookie or dessert, I patronize some of the excellent bakeries in town that use the “best” ingredients: butter, sugar, and bleached flour.
Fresh Fields shoppers have the classic emperor’s-new-clothes syndrome. They need to wake up: The ’60s are over!
