In honor of Valentine’s Day, I feel the need to express my love, my gratitude for the sheer pleasure, the moments of quiet reflection, and, when necessary, the space I need. Not to him, you paired-up, lovey-dovey, “I’m someone’s significant other” human-centrists (OK, he doesn’t even exist right now—not that I’m bitter, of course). I’ll be the one giving a dozen long-stemmed roses—or maybe the half-dozen cheapos sold outside the Farragut North Metro—to my special someplace during Love Rock Creek Park Day. Sure, Central Park flirted with me like Mrs. Robinson, but Rock Creek has captured my heart. And unlike that person you’re shelling out big bucks for right now, Rock Creek will be there for you for a long, long time. Join me for a 20-minute slide show—and make sure to bring along a white T-shirt to create your own wearable love note to the park afterward—at 2 p.m. at the Rock Creek Park Nature Center and Planetarium, 5200 Glover Road NW. Free. (202) 426-6828. (Elissa Silverman)
