Upon reading Elissa Silverman’s dismissal of Washington pizza (“Pie in the Sky,” 2/4), I felt the urge to rebut. The urge passed, only to return last night when I dined at my favorite Washington pizza place. By the sign on the restaurant at 1608 14th St., it is known as USA Pizza. On the delivery menu, it is Pizza Italiano. But no matter how you slice it, the pizza at 1608 14th is a delight. Crispy crust. Fresh and interesting toppings (spinach, olives, fresh garlic, and feta cheese, to name a few). And even the occasional bubble. As a displaced New Yorker, I relate to Silverman’s nostalgia for orangey grease (and pizza makers named Vinny!). But the pizza at 1608 14th is no less satisfying for the absence of this feature. Silverman should give it a try!
