As Mayor Anthony A. Williams telemarketed apologies for lackluster trash collection last week, Department of Public Works trash truck No. 30 7901 sat on the 1400 block of Q Street NW with keys in the ignition, the driver’s-side window open, and a full tank of gas. A collection of vintage porn magazines, including Teasing Pussies and A’Hole, was stacked behind its passenger seat. After a few days, residents started their own curbside pickup, tossing coffee cups, a Christmas tree, and even a plastic baby doll into the truck’s compactor. “To dump a garbage truck, it’s irresponsible to the residents,” says neighbor Mark Martin. Last Monday, after five idle days, the truck disappeared. Department spokesperson Linda Grant did not return calls for comment. —Jason Cherkis
