It’s like a box of chocolates. It’s no bed of roses. It’s what happens while you’re busy making other plans. But above all, life is a cabaret. So if you want to live more intensely, or simply polish your musical and cabaret performance skills, you’ll want to participate in today’s Theatre Lab workshop, “Making It in Musicals and Cabaret.” Through master classes with Broadway and D.C. musical theater gurus and public critiques of other participants’ performances, you’ll learn everything you need to know—from conquering the dreaded dance audition to creating a one-person show. You may not come out sounding like Joel Grey or Liza Minnelli, but you might just get good enough so you’ll hear “Don’t call us; we’ll call you” a little less often in the future. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Catholic University of America’s Rome School of Music, 620 Michigan Ave. NE. $60 ($125 to perform a piece of musical theater or cabaret and receive a 30-minute public coaching session). For reservations call (202) 588-8113. (Amanda Fazzone)
