There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
“Lost souls in the wilderness, searching for a place to find some rest,” wails Lacelle “Wiss” Bulgin on Israel Vibration’s latest CD, Jericho. Laments about the System are to be expected from any roots-reggae group, but only a few succeed in sweetening the message with the kind of skankin’ beats that make you rock while you think. And although Bulgin and co-vocalist Cecil “Skelly” Spence can testify about hard times from painful personal experience—both suffer from polio—they also know how to lighten up the mood by using creative choreography onstage and offering a show full of catchy songs like “Thank God It’s Friday” and the Bob Marley tribute “Jammin”: “Ram jam rammin’. Hope you like jammin’, ’cause we’re here to jam it with you!” Jam it with Israel Vibration, the Roots Radics, and DKGB at 9:30 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $20. (202) 393-0930. (Ayesha Morris)
