TUESDAY
There was a time when writing a book was hard. Your name, in gold, on the leather cover of a well-thought-out, meaningful tome was cause for respect. Nowadays, any Tom, Dick, or Al Roker can put pen to paper in order to share light-hearted commentary on anything from B-movies to raising kids. Not that we don’t want to hear about the terrors of in vitro fertilization, or the ever-enlarging breasts of Deborah Roberts. In this celeb-peeping era of topless Natalie Portman photos, Roker’s Don’t Make Me Stop This Car!: Adventures in Fatherhood fits right in. You can’t possibly get more voyeuristic than reading the gross details of Roker’s administration of progesterone to his wife. Not that I have anything against the man. I’m sure that he’s not only a nice guy, but also a good dad. It’s just that, well, who cares? Roker reads from and signs copies of his book at 6:30 p.m. at Borders, 5871 Crossroads Center Way, Baileys Crossroads. Free. (703) 998-0404. (Mike Kanin)
