The article by Laura Lang on the Free Teens HIV/AIDS prevention program in your May 26 issue (“Virgin Territory”) was generally accurate and balanced. However, you did not interview the students, teachers, or principals whom we have worked with. A poll just released by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy found that 78 percent of teens surveyed agreed that teens should not be sexually active. Also, 63 percent of teens who had had sex wished that they had waited. Officials should listen to what the students themselves are saying and encourage them to make right choices. Free Teens talks about love, relationships, and making good choices, as well as imparting the facts about sexually transmitted diseases. This, according to Bill Albert of the National Campaign, is what youth want to hear.
