MONDAY
I’m not a fucking late bloomer. So you grew up listening to Minor Threat. So you saw Rites of Spring. You wanna know what? I was in diapers when Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson formed Dischord. Can you imagine my overprotective parents taking their overprecocious kid to a punk-rock show? Yeah, right. To repeat: I’m not a fucking late bloomer. I was 10 when Fugazi played its first show. I’m so tired of people saying, “Oh, you should have been there when…” Well, guess what? I’m here now, and Fugazi is just as great as ever. And if I weren’t going out of town, I’d be at Fort Reno tonight to catch the band’s annual end-of-summer show. In fact, this is the first one I’ve missed since 1993, when I was 15. Oh, and by the way, my friends and I are just as punk-rock as you ever were—we just dress better. Fugazi performs with the Vertebrates at 7 p.m. at Fort Reno Park, Chesapeake Street and Nebraska Avenue NW. Free. (202) 777-2646 x2190. (Mike Kanin)
