I found it quite ironic that your excellent collection of essays about the social costs of a harmful illegal drug (“The Crack Issue,” 9/8) contained two full-page ads for harmful legal drugs. Nicotine and alcohol are highly addictive substances, each of which causes more deaths annually than cocaine and heroin combined. I think it’s high time that we end the war on drugs and develop a sensible and just drug-regulation policy, but I hope never to see an ad for crack cocaine in the Washington City Paper.
