I’m all for diversity at concerts, but El Vez sharing a double bill with El Guapo? What the fuck is that? Maybe our friends at the Black Cat hope everyone’s favorite faux Elvis of Mexican descent will join D.C.’s finest free-jazz/punk-rock band for a number or two. Who knows? It could end up being clever—maybe they’ll do some rousing covers of the King’s latter-day songs. I guess I just don’t get El Vez—or maybe I just don’t get El Guapo. Maybe I require clear-cut definitions too much; I do, after all, eat my Hungry Man dinners section by section. No, it must be that for too long I’ve been under the spell of Blelvis: Frankly, no one comes close to D.C.’s own Elvis-impersonating wonder—and I sure as shit don’t have to cough up $12 to see his show. You can cough it up at 9:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $12. (202) 667-7960. (Mike Kanin)
