The rampant NIMBYism of people who already have theirs never ceases to amaze. I refer to the residents of 3901 Connecticut Ave. NW in your article “A Passion for the ‘Pod” (10/13), who have seized upon an obscure organism’s possible habitat as an excuse to ban a new building in their vicinity.
As a resident of Mount Pleasant, I have already witnessed another case of NIMBYism, that of the selfish homeowners who prefer to have the rest of D.C. strangle in traffic congestion rather than reopen Klingle Road.
All NIMBYs prefer to forget that when their homes were built, the environment suffered and somebody else lost a view or an open space. Not only that, Rock Creek Park will still exist for these suddenly zealous defenders of the amphipod. What are they complaining about?
