Sligo Creek Parkway in Takoma Park is a fine place to spend an autumn day. You’ll likely find swaying trees, a picturesque stream shallow enough for kids to ford, and only the occasional threat of Blair High School students using the accelerator foot to punch notches in their learner’s permits. This morning, there’s the added incentive of a good cause to get you gamboling through the leaves. The second annual Run for Randi honors Randi Joy Waxman, a business professor at Columbia Union College and worker for many children’s causes, who died of a heart attack at 35. The 5K run/walk, which will be timed and scored by Montgomery County Road Runners, will benefit the Randi Joy Waxman Memorial Foundation, which continues to support the organizations she loved. On-site registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m.—rain or shine—at Columbia Union College, Flower and Carroll Avenues, Takoma Park. $20 (registration fee). (202) 424-7708.
