It’s not just the Washington City Paper’s Loose Lips who considers Marion S. Barry Jr. D.C.’s mayor-for-life: An Oct. 24 letter from Barry circulated to east-of-the-river neighbors had “Mayor Marion Barry, Jr.” prominently at the top of the stationery. “I am personally requesting that you help to elect Louanner Peters to serve as Advisory Neighborhood Commission for your Single Member District 6C07,” the letter urged. A former field coordinator for Barry’s 1994 mayoral campaign, Peters was chosen by Barry to serve as chair of the Washington Convention Center Authority. Peters resigned in December 1997, after a D.C. auditor’s report alleged that she had improperly used a Convention Center Authority credit card. —Elissa Silverman
