Money can’t buy you love, but it can buy a brighter Christmas for those who need it most. Georgia Brown’s restaurant offers up an early dose of Christmas cheer with its first-ever Gingerbread House Competition and Auction, which benefits the Children’s National Medical Center. Now, when I talk about gingerbread houses, I’m not talking about the sloppy-yet-filled-with-love concoctions that come from my kitchen. And I certainly don’t mean the totally lame insert-Tab-A-into-Slot-B gingerbread edifices that come from the supermarket. No, at the auction, you’ll find colorful, candy-covered, so-pretty-you’ll-be-scared-to-eat-them architectural masterpieces created by the District’s best pastry chefs. So come by, keep your hands to yourself, and dig deep to purchase a gorgeous gingerbread house or two to help out a worthy cause—every cent earned goes directly to help sick kids. The fun starts at 3 p.m. at Georgia Brown’s, 950 15th St. NW. Free (auction proceeds benefit the Children’s National Medical Center). (301) 277-6830. (Natalie Davis)
