Sunday

Today, gals in wide, swingy skirts and guys in Western-themed shirts will allemande themselves into a frenzy. It’s OK, though—it’s for a good cause. The Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities, in conjunction with the Washington Metropolitan Area Square Dance Clubs and the National Capital Area Square Dance Leaders Association, presents its 26th annual Toys for Tots Benefit Square Dance. As in previous years, the goal of the afternoon event is to give a brighter holiday to underprivileged children. And if folks have a good time doing it, so much the better. So make yourself look purty (square-dance duds are not required), brush up on your do-si-do, and always honor your partner. From 1 to 5 p.m. at the Lee Center’s Exhibit Hall, 1108 Jefferson St., Alexandria. $5 (or a new, unopened toy). (703) 838-4844. (Natalie Davis)
