I was pleased to see that the film Beresina, or the Last Days of Switzerland appeared first on Mark Jenkins’ list of best repertory films this year (“The Year the Business Broke,” 12/22/00). Beresina is easily one of the funniest films I have seen in a long while. Unfortunately, Jenkins’ one-sentence description of the film gave away the ending(!), probably ruining the experience of anyone interested in seeing the film who wasn’t at the sold-out showing at the FilmFest DC. I went on to read the capsule review of Urbania, a film I saw this weekend, in Joel E. Siegel’s year-in-review article (“Not So Bad,” 12/22/00). Siegel’s review also gave away a critical piece of information concerning the identity of one of the characters in the film. After that point, I continued to read only the reviews of films that I have seen.
In the future, it would be helpful to your readers if your film reviews did not reveal critical plot points, let alone endings.
