THURSDAY

No matter what subject Steve Roberts discussed in my journalism class at George Washington University, he always managed to tie it to one of two things: the fact that he worked for the New York Times right after college and his wife, NPR and ABC correspondent Cokie Roberts. We’d be discussing campaign coverage or reporting ethics, and Professor Roberts would veer back to his and his wife’s interviewing Catholic voters in a Milwaukee mall. Apparently, those stories are important enough to share with the whole world. In From This Day Forward—which chronicles their marriage of more than 30 years—the Robertses detail overcoming the challenges of careers, families, and religion. (He’s Jewish, she’s Catholic.) Like our journalism classes, you may find this hopelessly boring unless you’re married (or soon will be). Or love celebrities. Catch the act in person when Steve and Cokie discuss the book at 7:30 p.m. at Barnes & Noble, 3040 M St. NW. Free. (202) 965-9880. (Dave Mann)
