I met Phil Burton (“Never Let Go,” 2/23) early on in my career with the Metropolitan Police Department, and I must say, he brought most of the problems mentioned in your article on himself. Phil failed to look out for his best interests, the best interests of his officials, and the best interests of the MPD. Instead, he took seriously the oath that he swore and looked out for the best interests of the citizens of the District of Columbia. That will always make him my hero.
