Loose Lips has amused, titillated, and infuriated many over the years. The column is, however, published in a newspaper that seems to need reminding that it is actionable to print untruths as irrefutable fact. Witness the item “Curiouser and Curiouser” (2/23).

Even cursory research would have revealed the following: (1) I am not employed by the Development Corporation of Columbia Heights; (2) My mother, Lynn French, and Robert Moore never have been employed simultaneously at the same agency; (3) Frank Smith chaired the D.C. Council Committee on Public Services when my mother worked as his committee clerk.

The last is a fact well known to Loose Lips writer Jonetta Rose Barras, who covered the council for the Washington Afro-American at that time and was a frequent visitor to

the office.

Finally, as for having some “powerful juju”: To dismiss my mother’s exemplary record of making many people in the District homeowners over the last 14 years while also generating revenue for the city as either blackmail or black magic is to ignore the basic facts of her work record. No juju about it.
