Who’s Watching the Henhouse?

Annys Shin’s “Ten Things to Do Before Closing a Prison” (3/9) was an exemplary illustration of how prisoners built the coop and the District laid the egg. This is urban renewal once again. What was the difference between budgeted monies being given to the Department of Corrections and the Federal Bureau of Prisons? Now the men and their families are being dissipated to make way for country estates and golf courses, and the guards are being thrown on the trash heap.

The story is such a hot item here at Lorton that my copy was “appropriated” before I received my empty envelope at mail call.
