TUESDAY

Way back when the ‘N Sync vs. Backstreet Boys hoo-ha was all the rage, I was informed by experts on the subject (read: preteen gals who typically wondered why their dads wouldn’t let them watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer) that on the boy-band front, 98° blows everyone else out of the water. These experts might not have been able to pinpoint an actual reason, such as more hummable harmonies or more shakable dance moves. But I’m pretty sure I know what’s up: 98° is the least plastic of the boy bands. That’s not saying much, given that they look like some lacrosse team fresh from an Abercrombie & Fitch catalog. But at least they actually do all that mushy stuff they sing about: Everyone knows that Nick Lashay and Jessica Simpson put the “boy” in “boink” long before Britney (as in Spears) and Justin (the curly-headed dude from ‘N Sync) got around to phoning each other. 98° play with Baha Men, Dream, and Debelah Morgan at 7:30 p.m. at George Mason University’s Patriot Center, 4400 University Drive, Fairfax. $27.50-$37.50.
