I was the kind of ghoulish little kid whose ears pricked up at the words “Bataan Death March.” And I’ve grown up to be the kind of adult who likes nothing better than to curl up with a good book on the Manson family. Heck, I’d subscribe to the Centers for Disease Control’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report if I could afford it. So you’d figure me a sucker for the gloom, doom, and general glorification of all things satanic that make death metal the musical subgenre of choice for creepy, morbid kids everywhere. Well, the truth is I’ll take Elton John over Dismal Euphony any day. But if death metal’s your cup of steaming goat’s blood, or you’re just looking to kill time between animal sacrifices, you’ll probably want to check out Goatwhore—you haven’t lived ’til you’ve heard “Desolate Path to Apocalyptic Ruin”—with longtime thrash-metal stalwarts Overkill, as well as Krass Judgement, Frown Upon, and Decline at 4 p.m. at Jaxx, 6355 Rolling Road, West Springfield. $18.
