As a D.C. resident who works extremely hard for her money just to pay jacked-up prices at Safeway, I find it extremely hard to stomach David Morrison’s article (“A Quick Trip to the Grocery Store,” 5/4). He is the reason that grocery store prices in the city average $1 to $2 more than in the suburbs and the stores themselves acquire nicknames like “Soviet Safeway.” Hardworking and honest individuals have to subsidize and absorb the cost of his free cigarettes.

Oh, I forgot: He steals because he’s depressed and therefore in American society cannot be blamed for his actions. Pop another Prozac, Mr. Morrison, and I can’t promise to be kind if I see you picking up trash on 14th Street.
