So the Go-Go’s are back and, reportedly, better than ever. But the SoCal sweethearts of rock must now contend with a different musical world than what greeted them in 1981. There’s a new rock order, created in large part by the Go-Go’s themselves. And today, all-girl rock bands are in no way unusual, so it takes more than just a headful of curls to get attention: Gals in 2001 are expected to rock effectively. Among the more daunting competition for Belinda & Co. is the New York power trio the Hissyfits. Princess, P-Girl, and Fon-Lin share the Go-Go’s gift for danceable melodies (check “Something Wrong,” from their disc Wish), but without the Valley Girl goofiness. P-Girl e-mails from the road that “when we tour, it’s all about the food, all the time.” Catch the show, then join the gals at Bob & Edith’s. The Hissyfits play with Squatweiler and Dirt Bike Annie at 9:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $6. (202) 667-7960. (Dave Nuttycombe)
