SATURDAY

Southwest gets no love. People come to eat our seafood and laugh at our Nixon-era architecture, then quickly head back to tonier parts of the city. Unlike the rest of you louts, the good people at the D.C. Heritage Tourism Coalition recognize the untapped potential of the city’s tiniest quadrant, as evidenced by the 10-plus events scheduled to take place in my neighborhood for D.C. Heritage Neighborhood Day. The Southwest Community Parade has received the most hype, but the bicycle rodeo, complete with bike-safety demonstrations by the 1st District’s finest, is one you won’t want to miss. Trivia buffs can pick up tidbits about “Let’s Get It On” legend Marvin Gaye and other famous Southwest natives during a Waterfront walking tour. There are numerous goings-on in places like Georgetown and Cleveland Park, too, but haven’t you seen enough of them already? Events are happening all over town; visit www.dcheritage.org or see City List for details. (Sarah Godfrey)
