Wasn’t this supposed to be a rock show? Do I hear a tuba? Where are the guitars? How are you supposed to rock without guitars? OK, there are the guitars. Much better. But wait a second, that is a tuba. What’s going on? Rock bands don’t have tubas, and that doesn’t sound like a tuba anyway. If all that buzzing, whirring, and bleeping would stop, maybe I could hear some tuba. Wait, did I catch some—

It’s gone again. Well, maybe not. That instrument looks like a tuba, but what’s that sound? At least the drums don’t seem to be going anywhere. They just keep moving forward. Maybe if they keep going, the other instruments will shape up and start sounding like they should. Well, it doesn’t seem as if that’s going to happen anytime soon. But just in case it does, I’ll be waiting for it when Drums and Tuba play with 90 Day Men at 9 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $6. (202) 667-7960. (Jacob Long)
