In We Owe You Nothing: Punk Planet, The Collected Interviews, Punk Planet founder Daniel Sinker and his fellow interviewers avoid the stupid, fawning questions that plague lesser fanzines, and the resulting discussions reveal instigators such as Jello Biafra, Steve Albini, artist Frank Kozik, and Ruckus Society Program Director Han Shan as gracious, witty workaholics. Whether they’re ultimately likeable is irrelevant: The revolution is a full-time venture, and focus seems to be the No. 1 job requirement. But true sparks don’t start flying until the interviewees are prodded about being pigeonholed or blacklisted by the scenester media: The negative payback for taking artistic chances apparently stings more than any social injustice. A star is a star, and Sinker’s triumph as an editor is to let them talk freely. He signs at 4:30 p.m. at Smash!, 3285 1/2 M St. NW. Free. (202) 337-6274. (Joe Warminsky)
