There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
It appears that Bonnie “Prince” Billy (aka Will Oldham) has changed his tune: Gone are the references to the mystical blackness, dread, and death that spattered across I See a Darkness. The clouds have broken, and the sun now smiles upon His Highness’ brow, lending the (mostly) love songs on Ease Down the Road a sheen of clarity and surprising sincerity. With heaps of guest musicians at his side, including Harmony Korine, Freakwater’s Catherine Irwin, and former D.C. locals Mike Fellows and Jon Theodore, Bonnie Billy takes us on a warbling yet melodious tour of the various states of the heart-as-narrator, from post-coital tenderness to domestic bliss to infidelity. He plays with Sonna at 8:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $10. (202) 667-7960. (Amy Domingues)
