There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
I read the article “Hard Lesson” (6/22) by Jonathan Sabin for a class assignment. It was really interesting to me, because I have no reading disability and no one in my class does, but most of the kids in my class are really resistant to the journalism teacher when he tells us to read or write an article. People in my class also have the problem of writing in third-grade vernacular, and we are in the 11th grade.
It was really comical when that teacher said all those things about that boy, because I know that’s what my teacher, Colin Bane (who sometimes writes articles about music and entertainment for your paper), feels, but he is just not bold enough to say. That was a very real article, and I know a lot of teachers feel that way.
