More than 120 acts have entered this year’s Jaxx Battle of the Bands. That’s a lot of hair spray. And a lot of guys in pleather pants slinging their imitation Les Pauls and wanting to be Yngwie Malmsteen. The Battle of the Bands will last all summer long, and tonight’s elimination round will be a lot like a semifinal Wimbledon match: a knockdown, drag-out battle between contemporaries (except in this case, it’s a fight between glammed-out rock freaks instead of pristinely clad athletes) where anything can happen. The grand prize is $5,000 in cash, $2,500 worth of equipment, 50 hours of recording time, and a promised review of the band’s demo by the staff at Metal Blade Records. The third night of fighting starts at 7:30 p.m. at Jaxx, 6355 Rolling Road, West Springfield. $5. (703) 569-5940. (Tina Plottel)
