How many times do you need to read the same shit about the same bands, all rehashed from the same publicity company’s press release? I think if I hear the words “truly unique sound” one more time, I’m going to puke all over myself. Enter the Eternals, a band that, for better or worse, makes me want to write about music again. Is it funk? Dub? Jazz? Yes. It’s the sound of changing times, and Eternals frontman Damon Locks is leading the march, playing his melodica like the Pied Piper. If I made the effort to find a one-sheet, I’m sure it would read “Ex-Trenchmouth…DeSoto Records…truly unique sound.” But does any of that really matter? Find out when the Eternals open for ex-Soul Coughing frontman Mike Doughty at 9:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $10. (202) 667-7960. (Matthew Borlik)
